Job Title: Waking Night Support Worker
Reports To: Registered Manager / Senior Leadership Team

Purpose of the Role:

To provide high-quality overnight care and support to children and young people within a residential setting. This includes promoting their safety, wellbeing, and development in accordance with the organisation’s policies and values.

You will contribute to creating a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment where children can thrive. You’ll work as part of a team to meet individual care plans, uphold safeguarding practices, and ensure continuity of care throughout the night.

 

Key Responsibilities

Support for Children and Young People:

  • Provide reassurance and emotional support to children who wake during the night.

  • Ensure the welfare, safety, and dignity of each young person at all times.

  • Support healthy routines and promote a safe sleeping environment.

  • Respond appropriately to incidents or emergencies in line with safeguarding policies.

  • Encourage positive behaviour using agreed strategies and boundaries.

  • Assist with general domestic duties including cleaning, laundry, and basic meal preparation.

 

Teamwork and Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively as part of the night team to ensure continuity of care.

  • Maintain open communication with day staff to ensure effective handovers.

  • Support new or less experienced colleagues during their induction.

  • Participate in team meetings, training, supervision, and appraisals.

  • Engage with professionals, carers, and external agencies as required.

 

Administrative Duties:

  • Keep accurate records of incidents, observations, and handovers.

  • Complete written reports in line with organisational policies.

  • Follow procedures for recording and managing petty cash or resources.

  • Report any safeguarding concerns immediately to management.

General Expectations

  • Follow all safeguarding and child protection protocols.

  • Adhere to confidentiality, data protection, and equality policies.

  • Actively contribute to ongoing training and development, including mandatory qualifications.

  • Work flexibly as part of a rota including weekends and bank holidays.

  • Promote the organisation’s values and mission in everyday practice.
