Role Details
• Role: Pharmacy Technician
• Location: Leicester
• Days: Monday to Friday
• Hours: 8:30am – 5:30pm
• Pay: £33,000 per annum (Band 5 equivalent)
• Start: ASAP
• Length: Permanent role
• This exciting opportunity is based within an innovative automated unit dose laboratory supporting hospital pharmacy services. The role will involve supervising and managing the preparation of unit dose medicines using automated systems and supporting the implementation of new digital processes within a hospital environment. You will contribute to improving medication safety and efficiency by helping to deliver and maintain cutting-edge automated systems for patient therapy preparation.
Key Responsibilities
• Oversee the daily operations of the unit dose preparation service, including receiving, managing, and dispensing medicines.
• Operate and maintain automation technologies used for unit dose preparation.
• Provide first-line support and maintenance of equipment and computerised systems.
• Work collaboratively within a dedicated team managing automated drug dose systems.
• Act as a link between the Unit Dose Laboratory and the main dispensary.
• Deliver training to pharmacy, nursing, and medical staff on the use of automated dispensing cabinets and systems.
• Review and update training materials, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and policies.
• Support configuration changes during implementation and resolve technical or process-related issues as they arise.
• Participate in on-call or shift work during implementation phases to provide out-of-hours support.
• Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and contribute to medicine shortage and supply management.
• Monitor system performance and ensure alignment with trust-wide and pharmacy policies.
• Promote effective communication between pharmacy, ward teams, and nursing staff to ensure smooth workflow and safe medicines use.
Requirements
• GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician.
• Based in Leicester or willing to relocate.
• Minimum of 6 months NHS or hospital experience.
• Experience working with automated or digital systems within pharmacy desirable.
• Strong stock management and organisational skills.
• Excellent teamwork and communication abilities.
• High attention to detail with accurate record keeping and documentation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or other stock tracking tools.
• Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) principles desirable.
