About the Role:
We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, and proactive Deputy Manager to support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of a residential children’s assessment centre in Burton upon Trent. This is a key role focused on supporting vulnerable children and young people during crucial assessment periods, ensuring their care, safety, and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Registered Manager in leading and managing a team of residential support workers.
- Support with the delivery and oversight of high-quality assessment processes in line with statutory and organisational requirements.
- Ensure a safe, nurturing, and structured environment for children aged between 5–17, many of whom may have experienced trauma or complex backgrounds.
- Lead by example, promoting best practice in safeguarding, behaviour management, and therapeutic approaches.
- Monitor, review, and maintain individual care and assessment plans.
- Contribute to staff training, supervisions, and professional development.
- Act as a role model for children and staff, upholding values of respect, integrity, and empathy.
- Liaise with external agencies including social workers, education providers, and health professionals.
- Assist in regulatory inspections (e.g., Ofsted) and ensure the home remains compliant with all legal and quality standards.
Requirements:
- NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) – Level 5 or willingness to work towards is desirable.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a residential childcare setting, with at least 1 year in a senior/leadership capacity.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
- Commitment to trauma-informed and child-centred care.
- A calm, resilient, and supportive approach in high-pressure or emotionally challenging situations.
- Ability to work flexibly when needed, although core hours are Mon–Fri 9–5.
