EU Regulatory Affairs Travere Therapeutics Case Study

Scenario

Travere Therapeutics, a US based Rare disease focused biotech, were looking for a niche regulatory supplier to support their expansion of operations in Europe, following the success of their first marketed product in the US, with Switzerland being their main Hub. Travere had 3 critical hires planned for the Swiss office, Associate Director EU Regulatory Strategy, Regulatory Affairs Manager EU and Associate Director, Medical Writing; to lead the company’s developing portfolio in Europe.

Action

Initial step was to have a briefing call with the hiring manager, Snr Director Regulatory Affairs, covering all aspects around the experience required for the role, the challenges the incoming incumbent may face, what Travere can offer someone coming into the business at this time, and a realistic picture of the market including the talent pool available within the restrictions of the role.

The Senior HR Director was also on the call and gave a comprehensive breakdown of the budget allocated for the role, the wider bonus and benefits package, and what flexibility they could offer around home/hybrid working. Cpl then mapped the market within a 40mile radius of the CH Travere office and approached an initial shortlist. In conjunction with this, we also reached out to the network we had in Switzerland to see whether we could gather any recommendations/referrals. After identifying and contacting around 12 candidates who matched the very specific requirements, we then set up qualifying calls and submitted an initial shortlist of 3 candidates.

Outcome

All 3 candidates were taken through to interview and the lead candidate, who at the time was leading the regulatory strategy for a developing rare disease portfolio, was offered the position and accepted shortly after thanks to successful management of the offer and negotiation process by Cpl.

Following the successful hire, Travere were able to push on with the development of their portfolio in Europe. Cpl then supported by placing the next 2 hires within a 3 month period, allowing the business to allocate resources appropriately and avoid any delays on projects.

Since making these hires Travere have also received positive Phase 2 results from EMA on one of their leading assets and have bolstered their team further with Cpl’s support.
